I wanted to tell you a bit more about how I created KickBlock–and solved my (and your) bass drum sliding problems
FOR GOOD.
A few years ago, my band Joy Again was about to start a tour opening up for our first major act.
Before that it was basements, bars, small venues and such. There I got to know the horrors of the “house kit”, the nightmare of playing on a slick beer soaked floor, and the comforts of a sleeping bag after a day of driving and drumming.
But this next tour was a major step up for us. I had to be drumming at my best. I practiced as much as I could, but there was still one thing holding my drumming back that felt seemingly out of my control. My kit, my bass drum in particular, moved away from me whenever I played.
I'd done it all. I bought a rug, put 50 lbs weights on each leg, guitar and bass amps in front of the kit, the bass player sitting on the amps. I tried everything that was on the market. Nothing actually stopped my kick drum from moving! I knew there had to be something out there. So I set out to create the ultimate solution.
The concept was simple, I needed something lightweight and small that could be set up in an instant, and packed away just as quick. It had to COMPLETELY stop the drums from sliding. AND, it had to be cool 😎
The result was exactly that. I came up with the first version of KickBlock just in time for the tour, and the tour went great! And most importantly I never have worried about bass drum slide since.
